Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about Macronote.

How do I track restaurant meals?

Just type the restaurant and what you ordered:

  • “Nando's half chicken with spicy rice”
  • “Wagamama chicken katsu curry”
  • “McDonald's Big Mac meal with Coke Zero”

We pull nutrition data directly from official sources. For Nando's, we use their published nutrition information. For chains without published data, we estimate based on similar dishes and clearly tell you it's an estimate.

Do I need to weigh my food?

No. Describe portions naturally:

  • “A large bowl of pasta”
  • “About half the pizza”
  • “Two slices of toast”
  • “A handful of almonds”

Our AI understands natural portions and converts them to accurate nutritional values. You can always adjust if needed. If you do want to be precise, you can specify grams or ounces and we'll use that instead.

What if the nutrition data is wrong?

Every entry shows its source. If you think something's off:

  1. Tap the entry to see where the data came from
  2. Check the original source link if you want to verify
  3. Edit any value yourself
  4. Your correction is saved for future logs of the same meal

We'd rather show you a verified 350-calorie figure with a source link than a mystery 347-calorie number from an anonymous database.

Does it work offline?

Yes. Log meals on the tube, on a flight, in the gym — anywhere without signal. Your entries sync automatically when you're back online. No data is lost.

How much does it cost?

Macronote is a paid app with a free trial so you can try it before committing. We believe that if you're not paying for the product, you are the product. Charging for Macronote means we can focus entirely on quality, accuracy, and your privacy — no ads, no selling your data, no compromise.

How is this different from MyFitnessPal?

The biggest differences:

  • Input: Type naturally instead of searching a database and scrolling through results
  • Data quality: Official verified sources instead of user-submitted entries
  • Transparency: Every calorie traced to its source, not pulled from a mystery database

For a detailed comparison, see our Macronote vs MyFitnessPal page.

What restaurants do you support?

Any restaurant that publishes nutrition data online. That includes most major chains worldwide:

Nando's, Wagamama, McDonald's, Chipotle, Subway, Chick-fil-A, Burger King, Pizza Hut, Domino's, Five Guys, and hundreds more. For independent restaurants, we estimate based on similar dishes and tell you it's an estimate.

How does voice logging work?

Tap the microphone button, say what you ate naturally — “chicken breast with rice and broccoli” — and Macronote transcribes your words and processes them the same way as typed input. Audio is immediately deleted after transcription and is never stored.
